「定番力」という言葉はありませんが、そう呼びたくなるような「定番」のものやサービス、商品があります。英語のテストでしたらTOEICや英検(今やTOEICに押され気味ですが)などがそれに当たるでしょう。

映画で言えばスターウォーズなどは娯楽大作の「定番」でしょう。

「定番」と化したシリーズものには根強い人気があるものです。これからもまた世界中のファンを喜ばせるような大作が続々と登場すると、業界にとってだけでなく時代の雰囲気も多少変わるようなことにもなるかもしれませんね。

多くの読者、消費者、聴衆、呼び名は時と場合によって様々ですが、あらゆる場面で「定番」的存在が廃れることはまずありません。

売りたい…
ウケたい…
当てたい…
力をつけたい…

目的や欲求は千差万別ですが、まずは何事も定番を参考にしてみるのが実は近道かもしれませんね。

定番をまずは分析、研究することが英語学習でも必要かもしれません。

これは報道機関にとってはゆゆしき問題で、処理の仕方如何ではさらなる大問題に発展する可能性もあるかもしれません。

アメリカの大統領選を見るのは、今回で何度か目になりますが、イギリスでもそうですが、いつも思うのは、対立候補が徹底して様々な政策について討論しあう姿勢です。

日本では政治改革が何十年も叫ばれていますが、日本でももっと市民に身近な形で政策討論を日頃から実施していかなければならないと強く感じます。

2012年度第2回英検1級合格点は、81点でした!

本日、2012年度第2回検定の合格点が日本英語検定協会より発表されました。

1級の一次試験の合格点は、81点でしたね。「まあ、こんなところか」といったところでしょう。


アクエアリーズのメルマガでは「77点」と予想されていましたが、やや合格ラインはそれよりも高めでした。


ライティングを除いた点数の合計が90点台後半であれば、よほどライティングでやらかしていないかぎり一次突破は堅いところでしょう。


今回の語彙問題はややむずかしめの語彙も出題されていましたが、概ね意味の理解できるものですし、ジャーナリズムなどの世界では非常によく使用されるものです。


普段から気合十分のボキャビルを心がけて、日本語コミュニティの引力に引きずり込まれずに、英語中心になんとか意識を持っていきたいところですね。


英検1級の一次・二次試験については、何回受けても必ず合格できるだけの方法論が既に確立されていると思います。


どのテストにもそれぞれクセがあり、また、試験によって受験者の好き嫌いもあると思いますが、可能な限り様々なテストを受けて総合力に磨きをかけていくべきでしょうね。

「どちらも受けた方が良い」


というのが、理想的な答えなのでしょうね。


スピーチの試験が付いているということで、総合的な力をつける上では英検は非常に役に立つ試験ですし、TOEICについてもTOEC Speaking/Writing Testまで踏み込んで対策していくことで実際の運用力を高めることができますよね。


TOEICか英検か、という二者択一ではなく、事情が許す限り両方を攻略してしまうだけの力を身につける考え方がいいことは間違いないでしょう。


留学などの手段ではなく、日本国内で、英語試験などをメインに英語力を磨いていこうとする場合、あらゆるテストを排除せずに、積極的に取り込んでいく努力が必要とされる、ということではないでしょうか。

日本英語検定協会から、2012年度第2回英検の解答速報が発表されましたね。

持ち帰った問題冊子に自分の解答の記録を残していて、自己採点が自分でできる方にとっては、もう結果はある程度見えているところでしょうか。


英検のいいところは、TOEICとは異なり問題冊子を持って帰ることができる点ですよね。これはETS系のテストにない、英検受験の強力なメリットでしょう。


あとは、「英検特1級」とか「英検超1級」といった、今の1級を凌駕するクラスの級を創設してくれないかな、というところです。


日本英語検定協会の皆さま、どうかよろしくおねがいいたします(笑)


なお、今回の英検一次試験の合格点は、10月23日の15:00以降に公開予定で、インターネットでの合否閲覧サービスは10月26日(団体)14:00以降、(個人)15:00以降に開始予定とのことです。

2012年第2回 英検1級一次試験を受けてきました!

今日は2012年度第2回目の英検でしたね。受験された皆さま、おつかれさまでした。


本日、私も某会場で受けてきました!


いやあ、さすがに終わった後は、ぐ~~~ったり疲れますね。試験によって、微妙に「ぐったり感」がちがうような気がするのですが、単なる気のせいでしょうか。


出題内容について、簡単にレビューしておきたいと思います(ちなみに、英検1級の試験時間は、筆記100分・リスニング約35分です)。


1番目の語彙問題ですが、ここ数年の過去問とダブらないように、巧妙に選ばれた語彙が出題されていた印象ですね。


2番目の読解問題は、"The Faces of Nero," "Cooking and Early Humans," "Albania: An Explosive Legacy," "The Dreyfus Affair," "The Fight over Conflict Diamonds" といった表題の、なかなかに興味深い素材からの出題でした。


世界史の知識をお持ちの受験者と、そうでない受験者との間では、問題から受ける難易度の第一印象がかなり異なるのではないか、とも思いました。


最近の世界情勢についての時事英語をフォローすることに加えて、基礎的素養として「世界史」的な一般教養知識を一通り仕入れておくことで、さらに英検1級対策の質が上がると言えるのではないかと思います。


留学を考えている方にとっても、これは大変重要なポイントになるのではないかとも思います。


3番目のEnglish Compositionでは、"Agree or disagree: Space exploration should be continued" という、超頻出の定番トピックが選ばれていましたね。


これも事前にしっかりと準備されている方にとっては、かなり楽勝なトピックだったのではないでしょうか。


あとはリスニングですが、個人的には今回はPart 4のロング・インタビューの内容(東京におけるミュージカル興行についての歌手インタビュー)が、聞き取り易くてやや簡単だったような印象です。他のパートはだいたいいつも通りといったところでしょうか。


受験者の出来を見て合格ラインの調整が行われることになりますが、79~81ぐらいに設定されることがここ最近では多いのではとも思います。


はたして今回はどれくらいのラインが設定されるでしょうか。


英検は準1級もとても使い勝手のいい語句が出題されますので、時間とふところに余裕があれば、同時受験もお勧めですね。レター・ライティングなどをいきなり振られると面喰うこともありますし。


一次の結果通知の後は、いよいよスピーチです。二次試験は11月11日です。


一次の合格不合格に関わらず、「使える合格」に最終的に到達することを目指して、着実にがんばっていきましょう!


こういった試験モノは、特に英語の場合、継続受験が大事ですよね。


合格後に勉強をやめたり、合格前に諦めたりするのは、非常にもったいないですから。
