・もともとは1980年代に、ヤセル・アラファト指揮するPLO(パレスチナ解放機構)の影響を排除した民衆の反イスラエル抵抗組織として設立

・ハマスは1990年代にPLOが行ったイスラエルとの和平交渉に反発し、反イスラエル強硬派の姿勢を崩さず
